The Senior QA Engineer will be part of a cross-functional agile team that builds web services for trader web sites of TD Ameritrade. Our team supports a wide variety of web services where accuracy and attention to detail are critical to our success. The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure thorough  testing of applications developed by the team prior to production release.


The focus of the Senior QA Engineer will be to build technical expertise in our applications.  The ability to build technical relationships with Application Development staff is a strong requirement for this position. The Senior QA engineer  should focus on automation and process efficiency and work products produced (test plans, test cases, etc) must be of the quality that they can be used as examples for QA Engineers.


  • Lead the creation of test plans – including technical and business requirements
  • Collaboratively build test strategies, plan testing activities, and identify environment and data needs
  • Create and execute test cases according to standards – manual and automated
  • Highlight requirements and design gaps as early in lifecycle as possible
  • Perform problem solving and root cause analysis when defects occur
  • Actively participate in test case peer reviews and in continuous improvement efforts within the QA organization
  • Support and provide constructive feedback on existing processes and standards
  • Become technically competent in all technologies used by Application Development organizations
  • Participate in planning sessions onsite and via WebEx with QA estimates for velocity and story points
  • Contribute to team daily meetings with current test status and immediate quality goals
  • Play leadership role during test plan and test case reviews, providing direct feedback to Quality Engineers
  • Provide guidance around automation strategies, working with the QA lead and App/Dev


  • Efficient team player, strongly committed to deadlines, delivery, accuracy and quality of assignments
  • Experience with Quality Assurance test automation and related tools (ex., Cucumber, Selenium, and SoapUI)
  • Must have some programming experience using Java or other OO Language (C#, Object C). Will use this to create test automation frameworks.
  • Expert in SQL queries and subqueries
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple roles such as developers, business analysts, business subject matter experts, product owners, and other test engineers on a daily basis
  • Strong knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Iterative Software Development Life Cycle Process, and Agile Scrum Methodology
  • Highly skilled with a different type of testing process such as Functional, Integration, Backend, Regression, Black Box, GUI, UAT, ETL, XML and Reporting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with all levels of associates
  • Strong analytical/critical thinking skills and attention to detail
  • A minimum of 2 years experience managing small-to-medium sized projects
  • Must be able to act as a subject matter expert role for various projects and initiatives
  • Experienced in working on medium to large projects under minimal direction 


Other Desired Skills or Knowledge

  • Knowledge of financial markets/operations background a plus
  • Experienced in testing in the Agile environment
  • Knowledge of test repository or defect tracking systems such as HP Application Lifecycle Management
  • Experience with Windows, Linux, UNIX, Java, Oracle, SQL queries, XML, Web Services, Jira
  • 4 year college degree in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent work experience
  • Understanding of developer tools and writing automated tests a plus
