Role:

The HR Business Partner serves as a consultant and trusted advisor to management and Associates of a particular client portfolio on all aspects of HR such as talent management, compensation, recruiting, workforce planning, employee relations, diversity, learning and development, and performance management.  The Human Resources Relationship Manager proactively assesses and anticipates HR-related needs of the business and partners with the necessary HR specialty area(s) to provide value-added services and solutions to management that support the business and align with its short- and long-term business strategies and objectives.

Typically, supports a portfolio of clients that require a combination of routine and some complex functions (e.g. call centers, front line service, processing roles).  Portfolio groups may have a large range of entry to professional level associates and non-exempt roles.  In addition, groups may have a greater selection of new managers and/or supervisors.  Typically supports managers below the MD level but may also have interactions with MDs depending on the organizational structure of the function.

The HR Business Partner must maintain an effective level of Company, industry and HR knowledge, including strategy, culture, employment law, regulatory/compliance, performance and talent management.

Responsibilities:

•Conducts regular meetings with managers to assess organizational priorities and provide updates on HR initiatives and issues; communicates any business changes with HR specialty area as needed
•Provides day-to-day performance management guidance across all Associate levels (e.g. coaching, counseling, disciplinary actions, career development)
•Works closely with the business unit/department management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, increase employee commitment, engagement, productivity and retention
•Fully participates as a member of the business’ management team and actively participate in the key leadership meetings of clients
•Directs Associates to the appropriate channels to address questions  (i.e. The Resource, PeopleSoft, HR Shared Services, etc.)
•Works with clients and other necessary areas on workforce planning to determine appropriate staffing levels for business unit effectiveness; Liaise with Talent Acquisition staff as needed on staffing strategies
•Delivers high quality decisions and counsel consistently and appropriately to managers and Associates to maintain a productive and positive work environment and achieve optimal results
•Provides advice and counsel on TDA policies and practices
•Provides input into various business projects/initiatives
•Uses strong business acumen and a firm understanding of the financial drivers and dynamics related to growth and revenue goals in order to speak the language of the business and successfully assist in managing Associate performance
•Partners with key HR specialty areas to develop solutions that address client needs (i.e. recruitment, compensation, learning and development, employee relations); communicates the value add of these specialty areas with clients
•Advises and educates managers with regard to policies and programs of HR specialty areas (i.e. compensation fundamentals, including salary/incentive recommendations, new hire offers, job description development, promotions, etc.)
•Maintains an understanding of the legal requirements related to day-to-day management of Associates, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance
•Maintains strong relationships with managers to keep abreast of employee relations issues
•Manages and resolves routine to moderately complex employee relations; escalates the more complex cases to Employment Standards and HR Leader as appropriate
•Counsels employees concerning sensitive and difficult to resolve work-related problems and recommends to senior management systemic remedies such as training, changes to organizations practices and procedures
•Oversees the uniform execution and delivery of HR initiatives acting as the key interface between HR and the business (i.e. PFP, Employee Engagement Survey, Annual Merit, etc); Acts as a change agent for new HR related initiatives; Gathers and provides feedback on lessons learned after initiatives and provides to HR specialty area
•Participates in HRRM meetings sharing lessons learned, client feedback and best practices
•Works on key HR projects providing input on business impacts of HR decisions
•Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with HR specialty areas to develop targeted communications, solutions, programs and policies (e.g. exit interviews, climate survey results, etc.)
•Supports the development and roll-out of HR-related initiatives, policies, procedures and best practices implementation across TD Ameritrade (i.e. annual review, MRP, etc.);
•Presents to HR specialty areas special requests from business units along with the business rationale
•Leverages employee data (e.g. exit interviews, climate survey results, turnover analytics) and the performance management system to improve Associate engagement, performance and retention
•Partner with leaders to develop succession plans

Requirements:

•Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or other related degree area
•3-5 years of related work experience in an HR Generalist or HR Business Partner capacity
• Ability to travel up to 25% as needed
•Customer service-driven orientation and solutions-driven focus
•Proficient consulting and relationship management skills
•Sound working knowledge of multiple HR functional disciplines (i.e. compensation, recruiting/talent acquisition, learning and development, employee relations, talent management, and performance management)
•Broad technical knowledge in Employee Relations and ability to apply technical expertise to resolve a variety of routine to moderately complex issues
•Ability to effectively identify, diagnose and troubleshoot problems that may arise
•Ability to leverage data to assist management with talent and business decisions
•Strong business acumen
•Ability to build credibility and effective relationships with all Associate levels and across both the business and HR
•Demonstrated success in leveraging participation of key stakeholders in the resolution of moderately complex employee issues
•Effective leadership, management and coaching skills; excellent communication, interpersonal, collaboration skills to effectively communicate and influence across all organizational levels
•Sound negotiating, influencing and conflict resolution skills
•Ability to work independently or on a team and to successfully navigate changing priorities
