The Senior Specialist, User Experience Lead serves as the primary person responsible for the information architecture, interaction and visual design for specific projects of TD Ameritrade's prospect, client, and associate-facing digital platforms.  This individual is responsible for participating in research, analyzing requirements, and working with senior executives and key business stakeholders to design highly-innovative concepts and experiences communicated in the form of wireframes, designs and/or clickable prototypes that can be tested with end users and presented internally. This role requires a confident and creative individual with a versatile set of hands-on skills able to collaborate with fellow strategists, and technologists on a cooperative, agency-like team.

The ideal candidate should be versatile¬ with an eye for design– comfortable with Agile or Waterfall processes and happy to work on a couple quick ideas or a large long term project. You will be empowered with access to our client panels, business intelligence, analytics, and a deep bench of subject matter experts.   • Develop high-level concepts for features and functionality, and document through the creation of wireframes, user flows, site maps and prototypes
  • Facilitate brainstorming and sketching exercises for ideation to drive and determine the direction for designs
  • Determine the best design solutions to address user issues and needs
  • Document the design solutions via wireframes, designs, user flows and diagrams
  • Create quick prototypes in a tool like Sketch, Axure or Invision to demonstrate the flow for an application and to document features like animations
  • Participate in usability testing and other research
  • Observe usability testing, take notes on notable events and issues
  • Help create testing artifacts, e.g., a user flow to be tested, or mockups for the test
  • Formulate test questions for surveys and other testing tasks
  • Stay current in the fields of UX and technology
  • Stay abreast of rapidly changing web and mobile technologies for the purpose of maintaining a competitive and cutting design edge
  • Attend seminars, conferences and workshops (as appropriate) to learn new UX techniques and expand knowledge to apply to experience design
  • Use business intelligence to propose and incorporate new and creative ideas into current designs
  • Stay immersed in TD Ameritrade’s client behaviors and needs by monitoring OpinionLab comments, engaging in relevant TD Ameritrade training, and reviewing user research reports
  • Provide design recommendations based on client insights
  • Present design work to business partners from product, content, QA and technology; explain design choices, and address issues and concerns; help partners reach consensus
  • Help establish and document patterns with partners from technology
  • Conduct visual design QA and communicate issues to QA and technology


  • 4-7 years designing Web-based or mobile transactional products (i.e., e-commerce, banking, etc.) and large-scale consumer websites or applications
  • Demonstrated ability developing and executing creative ideas through the creation of wireframes and low-fidelity prototypes
  • Must be self-motivated, client experience oriented and a strong team player
  • Must be extremely detail-oriented, able to define ideas down to a specification level
  • Must present a positive, professional image. Solid leadership skills required.
  • Good project management skills; ability to plan, manage, and execute on simultaneous projects under tight deadlines in a collaborative, agency-like environment; must be able to drive project, debate merits of approach and work effectively with others.
  • Good relationship management skills, especially interpersonal, verbal, and written communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to define key success metrics for projects, incorporating measurable business objectives, revenue optimization and client experience best practices.
  • Knowledge of the financial industry a plus
  • Experience working with the Agile methodology a plus
  • Agency experience as a User Experience Lead, Senior Interaction Designer or Senior Information Architect level a plus.
  • Must have an online portfolio or samples of recent work (i.e., mockups, prototypes, specifications, guidelines)
  • Military education or experience may be considered in lieu of civilian requirements listed
