Technology Consultant, Institutional Sales


Our Team:


The Institutional Consulting Services (ICS) team, part of the TD Ameritrade Institutional organization, delivers high-quality, industry-leading consulting and education programs that help advisors run better businesses, in addition to helping them plan and prepare for the future.  The key to the team’s success lies in its ability to personalize each consulting engagement and turn practice management insights into actionable plans.  These programs are delivered by a nationwide team of experienced consultants who work closely with advisors and the TD Ameritrade team to deliver interactive workshops as well as a high-touch consulting experience for our prospects and clients.  The ICS team also contributes to internal and external publications on a range of practice management areas, in addition to creating resources to help advisors implement action plans.




What you’ll do:


The primary responsibility of the Technology Consultant is to partner with the Institutional Sales organization to deliver quality consulting engagements to our registered investment advisor (RIA) prospects and clients.  These consulting engagements are opportunities to guide prospective and established RIA firms through changes that will allow them to manage their business and serve their clients better through more effective use of technology from TD Ameritrade and third parties.  This will be accomplished by partnering with Sales Relationship Managers to identify advisor prospects and clients that need help optimizing their operations and use of technology.


Key aspects of the role include delivery of personalized and in-depth consulting to select advisors, targeted outreach to clients over the phone and in person, strategic territory management, presenting at workshops and speaking at conferences, and collaborating with internal partners to deepen relationships with advisors.



For you to succeed in the role, you will need (to be):


  • Bachelor's degree in business or related degree preferred
  • 7+ years of experience within the financial services industry that should include exposure to operations and technology in RIA firms, broker-dealers, and/or related businesses
  • Series 7 & 63 or ability to pass soon after hire
  • Strong consulting skills with the ability to listen, assess issues, analyze options, solve problems, and design “win/win” solutions
  • Familiarity with RIA industry software preferred, including but not limited to portfolio accounting, rebalancing, CRM, client portal, document management, and financial planning software
  • A strong communicator that can translate complex ideas into specific and actionable plans
  • Client-centric and cares about our RIA clients, their teams and the well-being of their businesses
  • Able to cultivate and sustain close relationships with clients, internal business partners and stakeholders, and external business partners
  • Welcome change and easily operates in evolving environments
  • Able to self-start, maintain urgency, focus and is action-oriented
  • Collaborative and is energized in a team environment working toward shared goals
  • A positive attitude and ability to work with varying personalities and motivations
  • Conscientious and committed to high quality results and follow-through
  • A healthy curiosity that keeps you focused on learning and growth, and anticipating trends in advisor technology and the broader industry
  • Flexible with ability to travel up to 50% of the time
