Role:

TD Ameritrade is creating an enterprise level data platform leveraging Azure cloud technology. The Data Protection Senior Engineer is a new role that will spearhead data protection initiatives of the Data Lake program on Microsoft Azure. The Data Protection Engineer will use state-of-the-art vendor toolkit (Protegrity) to create and maintain data protection and access mechanisms for the Data Lake platforms, acting as a liaison to other Security-related groups in matters of data security policies and standards.

 

Azure toolkits will allow business self-service analytics to operate on near-real-time datasets provided from internal enterprise platforms. Data Protection is essential to securing data and reducing risk of unauthorized data access. This Engineer will manage and maintain data protection tools including configuration of necessary data protection rules for sensitive fields. The role includes partnering with data SMEs, developers, other engineers and administrators to understand data access requirements in order to recommend appropriate data protection mechanisms, access control and entitlements structure for a data set and persona.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform installation, upgrades, configuration and maintenance of data protection tools
  • Integrate data protection tools (e.g. Protegrity, Voltage) with DATA platforms  
  • Recommend and configure native data protection (e.g. TDE, dynamic masking, encryption) in data platforms
  • Recommend and configure data protection rules and policies in data protection tool or native data platforms to meet security requirements and analytics experience requirements
  • Monitor performance and health of protect and unprotect operations, data protection suite components
  • Advise and recommend data access control and data entitlements processes, procedures and standards for DATA platforms
  • Monitor and advise on data access requirements for applications and users of DATA platforms
  • Recommend and help define user-defined roles, role memberships, access control lists, database permissions
  • Manage the data access control process and user entitlements procedures
  • Ensure appropriate documentation is captured for the user entitlements structure
  • Recommend process and procedure improvements for access control and user entitlements
  • Understand TDA security policies, security standards and practical interpretation for data protection
  • Act as a liaison to Security Risk Management, Critical Infrastructure, Enterprise Access Governance teams to ensure data security and access control requirements and standards are implemented
  • Understand security risks related to data security, data protection and access control
  • Participate in developing standards related to data security, data protection and access control

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with computer related coursework
  • General knowledge of Cyber Security, Data Security, Data Protection, Access Control
  • At least 1 year of actual work-experience in a data security environment, securing data-at-rest and data-in-motion
  • Minimum of 3 years of security experience (experience and understanding of multiple security domains)
  • Minimum of 5 years of IT experience (server/desktop hardware & software, database/storage administration)
  • Basic experience with file, database and data protection mechanisms: TDE, PGP, encryption, tokenization, masking
  • Basic experience with access control mechanisms: Active Directory, Identity Management, RBAC, ACLs, permissions
  • Basic understanding of the IP protocols and associated security mechanisms: TCP/IP, HTTPS, SSL/TLS, SFTP
  • Basic understanding of key and certificate management
  • Basic experience with scripting SQL, PowerShell preferred
  • Familiar with various information security best practices and policies
  • Ability to conduct research & perform basic analysis for potential and existing products
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for interactions at all levels across the organization
  • Must be resourceful, creative, innovative, results driven, and adaptable
  • Solid problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to perform problem solving in a complex demanding environment by drawing on a pool of technical experience, business understanding and good judgment.
  • Military education or experience may be considered in lieu of civilian requirements listed
